Luck is not chance—
It's Toil—
Fortune's expensive smile
Is earned—
The Father of the Mine
Is that old-fashioned Coin
We spurned—
Theme : Luck isn't a chance given to you . It's what you make out of your life.
Significance:
-- Luck is not chance-- It's toil -- This stanza basically is represented by the theme .
-- Fortune's expensive smile-- is earned-- This stanza represents how you analyze what you have around you. Such as what you think is your fortune and how you live your life.
--The father of mine -- that old fashioned coin -- we spurned -- I believe this stanza relates to most teenagers now in days. We want to make our own mistakes and can't stand when our parent says, " I made that mistake and I don't want you to make it." This stanza is saying that when we feel we have luck is when we do something for ourselves on our own.
Figurative Language: Personification -- Fortune's expensive smile--
Mood : Focused- because as Emily Dickenson says, " Luck is not chance."
